A Valentine’s gift with a story
Before I share this Valentine’s Day gift idea, I can’t believe this will be twice this month that both my son’s have astounded me with their creative and crafty abilities! Ha ha! Yes, these are teenagers we’re talking about here!
If you remember about a week ago, my other son (16) created a wall hanging for his bedroom using an old skateboard. (see that blog post HERE).
A couple of days before Valentine’s Day, my oldest son (18), came to ask me about an idea he’d seen on the internet to make something creative for his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. He had a Plan A and needed to source some supplies, so next day we went shopping for said supplies … and came up short.
So we needed a Plan B – now I did suggest that maybe the beautiful bunch of roses he’d bought and the fact he was taking her out to dinner, might be enough and that she’d be really appreciative, I’m sure.
But I could tell by his face that he wanted to go the extra mile and give her something a little bit special, and that he had given some creative input.
While I continued to madly paint frames, etc. for the this Saturday, I offered him a thought that she might like one of the vintage frames I was painting. He was running out of options AND time, and yes, I would make him pay for it (it’s not a gift from him if it didn’t cost him anything, right?).
So he thought about it, and after some time, came back to me with this great idea – so he did it!
Thankful I had the supplies for what he planned to do, he added twine using a staple gun to the back of the frame, and a few mini-pegs to create this adorable photo frame!
Perfect! They have taken several random crazy face photos in photo booths over the last year, and so this was the perfect frame to display them in.
I used Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint – Ironstone colour for the frame and distressed it.
I then added Miss Mustard Seed’s Antiquing Wax to create an aged patina. It settles in the grooves and gives a deeper tone to the colour.
And how is this wrapping job for a guy’s effort?! … well, I may have given him a little idea on that.
And yes, she loved it!
