When I came across this old mirror frame at a local op shop, I saw that it had a decent backing board. My mind immediately said “Chalk Board” and I took it home!
BEFORE:
I pulled out the board to paint it later with blackboard paint, and painted the metal frame with chalk paint.
I use a DIY recipe for chalk paint that I found here.
Chalk paint is a fantastic medium to use as it sticks to anything and there’s no need to prime or sand. Very easy to sand back for a “shabby” finish, too.
I just used this blackboard paint from our local craft store (Spotlight).
I love the French Fleur de lis in each corner!
AFTER: Here’s the finished board.
Tip: If you are using blackboard paint, remember to season your board before use by rubbing all over it with a piece of chalk on its side, then wipe over with a damp cloth. This prevents “burning” of the writing as you write on the board with chalk for the first time.
Then why not try your hand at some chalk board art. There are some great examples online at the moment for this latest trend in decorating for weddings, parties, and other special occasions.
