Two are Better Than One – Patchwork Stool, Antiquing Wax

Today, as Juliana completed her final day of work experience with me here at I Restore Stuff, I was reminded of the verse in the Bible that says, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.” (Eccl 4:9) My goodness, we got a lot accomplished over the last couple of weeks. She has been such a hard worker, and we probably accomplished more in 5 or 6 days than I’d normally get done in two weeks.

Last week, Juliana had told me about a stool she’d been working on at home, so I asked her to bring it in so we could finish it off. She said it had been one of those ongoing projects that she had been put off finishing, and couldn’t decide how to finish the base of the stool. We decided on a coat of ASCP Old White …

Then sanded for a distressed finish … (I know you are dying to get a good look at the stool seat).

Isn’t it pretty?! She has glued a patchwork of fabric in gorgeous eclectic colours.She hasn’t quite finished the seat. Just a few more patches to fill and then it needs a coat of decoupage glue or varnish to seal the fabric in, so edges don’t fray, etc. I love the vibrant colours in this. Juliana is from Brazil and says everything is so colourful and bold over there. I can imagine.Here’s the base with a little distressing, but Juliana decided on a more aged look, so we brought out the Miss Mustard Seed’s Antiquing Wax.

Apply the MMSMP Antiquing Wax liberally to the piece of furniture working in sections, and getting into the grooves and crevices. We used a wax brush to help get into these parts.Then rub away the wax with a lint free cloth. You’ll notice the dark wax will stay in the crevices and even in the brush strokes of the painted parts, creating a fantastic aged patina.All ready to take home and finish off the seat!
